Mountain West Connection Players of the Week

We highlight the top performers from the past week

NCAA Football: Hawaii at San Diego State Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

Week Six of the Mountain West football season is behind us and another abbreviated schedule gave players from different schools a chance to shine. Here are our players of the week at Mountain West Connection.

Offensive Player of the Week:

Chevan Cordeiro (Hawaii)

It really came down to Cordeiro, Andrew Peasley, and Trey Smith. Ultimately, I decide to go with the guy who put up numbers against a team that was in first place heading into the weekend. Cordeiro was super efficient, completing 26 of 32 passes for 246 yards and a touchdown. He also added another touchdown and 62 yards on the ground.

Defensive Player of the Week:

Kina Maile (Utah State)

The Aggies’ inside linebacker was a key contributor to Utah State’s first victory of the season. Maile recovered two fumbles and returned one for a touchdown. He also added six tackles.

Special Teams Player of the Week:

Calvin Turner

There weren’t a lot of standout special teams performances this week, but Calvin Turner made the most important play of the week. With Hawaii ahead 24-21 and Nevada needing a stop, Turner returned a kickoff 47 yards to midfield which eventually led to the Rainbow Warriors putting the game on ice.
