Another week, another recruiting roundup.
With the season in full swing and no recruiting visits, things continue to be developing slowly. Coaches are focused on the upcoming games over anything else. In a normal season, this usually happens in August. This year, it’s happening now.
This past week saw one new verbal in to the Mountain West, with UNLV picking up a silent commit and Nevada’s silent comment making his announcement this week. The offers were lighter as well. Based on the slow recruiting week, the Wolf Pack get the nod for the cover photo this week.
Class of 2021 Cover Photo Total:
- Air Force: 6
- New Mexico: 5
- Boise State: 4
- Colorado State: 4
- Nevada: 3
- San Diego State: 3
- UNLV: 3
- Fresno State: 2
- Wyoming: 2
- Hawaii: 1
- San Jose State: 1
Recruiting Calendar:
The dead period is still alive. But based on what the NCAA is allowing, it seems more like a contact period to some degree, as coaches can have unlimited calls and video meetings during this time.
Update: The Dead Period has been extending through the end of the 2020.
Air Force Commitment Tracker:
Looks like it’s time to bring this back. Since the Air Force Academy regularly has around 100 commits in each class, it’s kind of fun to track them over the course of the year.
Number of Falcon verbal commits: 42
A Glance At San Diego State Recruiting:
The Aztecs have been recruiting well this cycle. They currently have the 4th best class in the Mountain West and the 77th ranked class per 247 composite rankings. Like most years, they are getting the bulk of their class from California.
It’s a top-heavy class, but the top of it can measure up with any other team in the conference. Noah Avinger is the highest-rated DB in the conference and New Zealand Williams compliments him well. Joining them is LB Zyrus Fiaseu, who continues the trend of talent they’ve brought in at the position the past two classes. On offense, William Haskell is a dual-threat QB and one of the higher rated players at his position coming into the MWC this year. Also, wide receiver Phillippe Wesley is an intriguing player who could add a new dynamic into their offense.
Looking ahead, the Aztecs should turn their focus to the trenches. With just three commits on either side of the line, they need to add players to bolster those spots. It also may not be a bad idea to add a second running back to this class.
It’s a solid group that can get a boost depending on who they add with their final few spots.
