There weren’t a lot of compelling games this past weekend, but there were some great individual performances. Boise State and San Diego State had nice bounce back victories, and Nevada narrowly stayed undefeated. There are some great games headed our way, but let’s first recognize our top performers of the week. (Note: These are not the official Mountain West Players of the week)
Offensive Player of the Week:
Jalen Cropper (Fresno State)
Haener, Doubs, Strong, Bells, Rivers, there were some great offensive performances this past weekend. But the Bulldogs finally utilized the talents of Jalen Cropper and he proved to be a difference maker. Cropper finished the game with 10 receptions for 202 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Defensive Player of the Week:
Riley Whimpey (Boise State)
There were plenty of candidates that could have come away with this award this week, but Whimpey was dominant from the first play. It was clear that Whimpey had a chip on his shoulder after last week’s embarrassing loss. On the first play of the game, Whimpey broke through the Colorado State offensive line for a tackle for loss. Whimpey finished the game with 14 tackles and 3 tackles for loss.
Special Teams Player of the Week:
Avery Williams (Boise State)
The greatest special teams player in Boise State history was at it again, Williams blocked two punts, recovered one for a touchdown and the other was returned by teammate DJ Schramm for a touchdown. Williams also had a few nice punt kick returns in the Broncos convincing win over the Rams. Williams now leads all active players in non-offensive touchdowns.
