Strong opening week for MW football

NCAA Football: New Mexico at Colorado State Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

The MW came off a stellar opening week to the season, knocking off 4 power 5 schools en route to a 9-3 overall first week as a conference. Check out the following links for news around the conference.

Davie recovers after win

New Mexico defeated Sam Houston State this weekend but the attention has been on head coach Bob Davie. Davie is expected to make a full recovery but did not specify what the specific condition is. The Lobos have a big test coming up as they prepare to face Notre Dame on September 14th. We are all hoping for a quick and smooth recovery for the Lobos head coach.

Notes on Aggies close loss to Wake Forest

For just the 5th time in program history Utah State had a 400 yard passer, 100 rusher, and a 100 yard receiver in the same game, unfortunately, these efforts came in a close loss to Wake Forest. A key factor in the Aggies inability to close out the Demon Deacon’s was their inability to convert on third down, the Aggies were only able to convert on 6 out of 16 third down tries, this lead to Wake Forest leading in time of possession by 13 minutes. While the Aggies offense appears to still be as high powered as ever, there were important miscues that made the difference between an opening power 5 win and heartbreaking shoulda had it loss.

Wyoming isn’t looking past Texas State after Mizzou win

Wyoming is coming off a huge first week 1 win over SEC’s Missouri, but with Texas State up next Wyoming insists there will be no “hangover effect”. This is the programs first P5 win since 2008 and the team is no doubt the talk of the entire state but they have to carry the momentum into next week’s matchup against Texas State. Safety Eljah Halliburton says “it’s just like we’re 0-0. We’ve still got to make a name for ourselves.” Wyoming will look to ride the hot start to the season and prove they are a contender in a conference that looks like it could end up being very deep.
