The MWC is back and in business!

NCAA Football: Purdue at Nevada David Calvert-USA TODAY Sports

What a weekend! Whether your favorite Mountain West team won or lost, you saw some great and enjoyable football games this weekend. Week 1 is in the books and the MWC was one of the better conferences competing. Take a look at a few of these tweets before we get to the links for today. Also, we roll out are first full week of in-season original content. You can see what’s in store below.

The Spartans win a game!!!

It may not seem like much against Northern Colorado, but as last year’s opener showed, there’s no such thing as a sure thing. For a night, everything was how it should be. Josh Love commanded the offense, spreading the ball around with the points mounting up. LB Ethan Aguayo anchored the defense, with an astounding 20 tackles! It may be one of the few wins they get this season, but getting the first one in Week 1 goes a long way.

Wolf Pack storm back behind freshman QB and (now former) walk-on kicker.

Some of his own teammates didn’t know he was the starter or even know his name early on in camp. Now, he’s being called a legend, one game into his career. Brandon Talton and his 56 yard game-winning field goal (the longest he’s ever kicked in a game) over Purdue instantly became one of the best moments of the weekend. Even better, during the post-game celebration, Coach Jay Norvell awarded him a well-deserved scholarship.

Hurricane Hank part of huge comeback for Boise State in Florida.

Another one of the big stories this weekend was Boise State going into Florida and beating Florida State at home. It was at home because it was moved last minute. It was moved last minute because of a hurricane, Oh and Boise State was starting a true freshman QB. They were down 31-13 and shut out the Seminoles in the 2nd half. Hank Bachmeier, who was being referred to as Hurricane Hank on Twitter, had a great debut, throwing for 407 yards, 1 TD/1 INT, and making some huge throws, converting some big third down and withstanding hard hits.

Cowboys take out an SEC school.

Sure it was Missouri but Wyoming wasn’t looking scared and really, they were in the driver’s seat for most of the game. The Cowboys took advantage of every Tiger turnover and mistake. QB Sean Chambers was more dangerous with his legs than his arm but everything was clicking on Saturday night in Laramie. If this game was any indication, Wyoming should not be taken lightly this season.

Davie rushed to hospital.
