Football season is almost here. Until then enjoy some fresh links leading up to the season.
Wisconsin rule leading to less concussions
A new Wisconsin rule that cuts full contact practices is leading to less concussions in high school football. The rule specifically limits full contact practices to 75 minutes early in the season and then drops to 60 minutes further into the season. The results have been positive, prior to the implementation of the rule there were 86 concussions per 1000 practices, since the rule has been in effect the study finds 15 concussions per 1000 practices. With more and more information coming out about the risks of head injuries in football it is encouraging to see rule changes generating positive results.
A look at the Air Force quarterback competition
Isaiah Sanders has been on a wild ride going from backup to starter and backup again. Sanders has been dubbed “Mr. Steady” by his QB coach as he has excelled off the field and in the classroom. Sanders is says its cool to see his off field work recognized. Sanders is facing a tough battle to win the starting position from Donald Hammond III. Air Force is 2-4 in games that Sanders has started and he knows he has a fierce battle ahead of him.
