Football is almost here!

NCAA Football: New Mexico at Colorado State Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

This is the last Tuesday without MW football, the wait is almost over! Today’s edition of MTV is loaded with some links with the last bit of news before football starts. Enjoy.

Week 1 AP poll

The week 1 AP poll is here as we begin a new football season. No Mountain West teams are ranked to start the season but Boise State, Utah State and Fresno State are all receiving votes. Boise checks in with 38 votes while both Fresno State and Utah State received 8 each.

Rome Weber earns starting job for Cowboys

One of the biggest competitions this summer for Wyoming has been at the free safety position, in the end, Rome Weber won out. DC Jake Dickert emphasizes that weber went out and earned the position with strong showings throughout camp. The battle had come down to Weber and Braden Smith and many thought Smith had the edge being that he is a 4th year player but is was Weber who has out performed during camp. The Cowboys open up their season against Missouri.

Aggies have stacked D line

Utah State has one of the best teams in the conference and their impressive defensive line is a big reason for it. Last season Devon Anderson, Fua Leilua and Christopher ‘Unga combined for 103 tackles, 11 TFL and 3.5 sacks. The talented linemen will look to build off of their solid season. Coach Gary Anderson is confident with his front 5. With such a talented front line, one of the best pass rushers in the league, Tipa Galei, should have plenty of space to rush opposing QBs, making USU one of the scariest defenses in the conference. The Aggies are expected to be at the top of the conference and will be hungry for a MW title.
