Ranking Boise State’s Top Players: Number 11

Can this safety return to his sophomore form?

NCAA Football: Mountain West Championship-Fresno State at Boise State Brian Losness-USA TODAY Sports

We are continuing our countdown of the top players on the 2019 Boise State football team. This week we are featuring a player who took a few steps back his junior season, but seems poised to finish his career on a high note. Coming in at number 11...

Kekoa Nawahine

Nawahine will pair with DeAndre Pierce to form the most experienced safety tandem in the Mountain West. Nawahine’s production took a noticeable dip in 2018, especially after the injury to Pierce. As a sophomore, Nawahine was voted second team All-Mountain West. He registered three interceptions and finished second on the team with 108 tackles. As a junior, Nawahine had 71 tackles and did not record an interception. While his numbers were nothing to be ashamed of, it was not the production that many fans expected.

I think Nawahine will have a bounce back 2019 season and end up as an All-Mountain West performer. He has the size and knack for the ball that should open the eyes of some NFL scouts.

Let’s take a look at the countdown to this point.

#15: John Ojukwu

#14: David Moa

#13: Avery Williams

#12: Zeke Noa

#11: Kekoa Nawahine

What do you think? Where would you place these players? Stay tuned next week, as we break into the top 10.
