This week we are starting a new series that will lead us into the season. We will be looking at the top players on Boise State’s roster. The choices at the top were pretty obvious, but things were not as clear for the last few spots. Without further ado, we are going to start this countdown with a one of the big guys. Coming in at number 15....
John Ojukwu
Ojukwu changed the Broncos offense halfway through the 2018 season. When he replaced Andres Preciado, the offense significantly improved. Brett Rypien suddenly had time in the pocket and Alexander Mattison saw his numbers skyrocket. Ojukwu made an impact as a freshman, at a position where freshman rarely see the field.
This season, Ojukwu will be the staple at right tackle and with Ezra Cleveland on the other side, the new quarterback should have plenty of time to throw the ball. I also like the long term potential of Ojukwu. A lot of experts believe that left tackle Ezra Cleveland is a candidate to leave early for the NFL. That might mean that Ojukwu shifts to left tackle in 2020. There is no denying that the Boise High School graduate will play a significant role for seasons to come.
What do you guys think? Is Ojukwu a top 15 player? Or does he still have too much to prove. Leave your thoughts in the comments below.
