NCAA Football: Georgia State at Air Force Ray Carlin-USA TODAY Sports

Monday comes out of nowhere once again. But fortunately for us, we are welcomed with a brand new set of links from around the web. Read away.

Boise State names their footballs.

Metallica. Madonna. Boise State has a name for all of their footballs, written on the ball and named by the equipment staff. Quarterbacks and other positions all have their preferences and the names help them distinguish the different styles and types of balls. Some get used in different drills and others are set aside for game days. It’s a fun thing for players to be part of the process.

Will grad-transfers being disappearing?

The seldom-used loophole transfer rule has become a way of life in the world of college football. However, there is a growing amount of people who want to close off that particular loophole. In less than two weeks, the NCAA will have a vote on this rule, that would result in a reduction of a scholarship for any school that accepts a grad transfer. This was proposed last year and MWCConnection wrote that this was a terrible idea, as this is one of the few rules that rewards student athletes for taking care of business in the classroom.

Warrior linemen grinding away.

A nice piece on the unsung heroes of the offense, the lineman. All the blame when things are bad and almost no credit when things are going well. For Hawaii, the unit was on the young side but the coach is one of the most experienced in all the country. OL coach Mark Weber can boast 36 years at 10 different schools!

Boise State does their spring game.

The new defense was on display, as well as no special teams miscues (which is quite the change from the regular season). There wasn’t much to glean from the quarterback battle, as all got pretty equal playing time. The defensive line and wide receivers look to be the strengths of the team, and Shakir, Hightower, Weaver and Scale all look to have big roles next season.

Hutson wins national coach of the year.
