Colorado State 2019 NFL Draft Recap

Despite only one player being drafted several Colorado State players will get the chance to make an NFL roster

NCAA Football: New Mexico at Colorado State Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Colorado State came off of what was a very rough season. Finishing 3-9 for the first time since 2011 and not making a bowl game. But that didn't stop some players from still pursuing an NFL dream. Despite the Rams having a bad record there were several players that had solid seasons to a point they were able to potentially get drafted into the NFL. There were two players in particular who caught the eye of NFL scouts. Olabisi Johnson and Preston Williams. So there was a possibility of one if not both being drafted. Here's the final results for Colorado State.

Olabisi Johnson 7th Round Minnesota Vikings - Bisi began turning heads at the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl. Combined with a very good pro day he was able to get in some teams draft boards. He's a guy you can save inside and outside. Great hands and can even return kicks. He's a guy who could stick in the league because of his versatility.

Preston Williams UDFA Miami Dolphins- Preston in his one season for the Rams lit it up! However with his off the field issues prevented him from getting invited to the NFL combine. His pro day wasn't his best day either as he was battling an ankle injury. Much to a lot of people's surprise he ended up going undrafted. With his size and speed he has a chance to make the roster and prove a lot of people wrong.

Josh Watson UDFA Denver Broncos - The leader in tackles from last season was is getting a chance with the Broncos. He is mostly an inside player that has a knack for getting to the ball. He could stick around on special teams or a reserve role. Could use some work in coverage. However he was the field general on defense so that shouldn't be an issue. A great pick up for Denver.

Izzy Matthews Rookie Minicamp, Houston Texans - Izzy Matthews was the brusier that brought some speed to the backfield for the Rams. He was also a leader not only on the field but off the field as well. Matthews will get the chance to try to make a training camp roster as he will be a participant in rookie minicamp for the Houston Texans.

Tre Thomas Rookie Minicamp, Indianapolis Colts - The second leading tackler will get a shot to make a training camp roster with the Colts. He alongside Josh Watson were the leaders of the defense the past couple seasons. He will be joining a young linebacker room with a chance to make the training camp roster.

These players could be playing for a chance to be playing on Sundays. Congrats to these young men and good luck pursing your NFL dreams!
