Welcome to another week full of Mountain West Conference news. A lot has happened the past few days and we have you covered. Start your week off the right way by taking a look at the links we have for you today.
A lot has changed for the Lobos since Alford left.
It’s been six years since Steve Alford bolted to UCLA from New Mexico. And the landscape could not look more different. The 2013 Lobos were one of five MWC teams in the NCAA tourney that year. New Mexico basketball hasn’t really been the same since. They haven’t made a post-season tournament in five seasons and the athletic budget is a constant question mark.
Get to know the new UNLV MBB coach.
New Runnin’ Rebels coach TJ Otzelberger created his own AAU team when he was a teenager. He also scouted players to get them to join the team. It’s clear coaching has always been in his blood and he’s bringing a ton of different experiences with him. There’s some other fun tidbits and info in here as well.
Pilipovich gets an extension.
Men’s basketball coach Dave Pilipovich has agreed to a three-year contract extension, athletic director Nathan Pine announced on Friday. His contract now runs through the 2022-2023 basketball season. He has been the head coach a little over seven seasons. This is one of the first major moves Pine has made since he became athletic director.
Utah State has their spring game.
The Andersen Era 2.0 had their spring game following practices this weekend and a bunch of alumni/current NFL player were there to see it. The offense spread the ball around, with 13 different players catching a pass. Phenom returner Savon Scarver continued to be a playmaker. Some of the mid-year transfers were able to make a statement too. There was a lot to be excited about as the new staff and schemes were on display.
