Dax Raymond, former tight end for the Aggies, was the sole Utah State player invited to this years NFL Combine at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
Along with all other participants, Raymond was measured before drills. He measures at 6’5” and 255 lbs with a 32 5/8” wingspan and 10 ¼” hand size.
He took to the field on Saturday to partake in the various tests including the 40-yard dash, the 3-cone drill, and the broad and vertical jumps, amongst others.
Raymond finished the day with a:
4.73 40-yard dash (unofficial) (10th out of all TEs)
15 bench press reps (15th)
32.0 vertical jump (11th)
109.0 broad jump (15th)
7.15 3-cone drill (5th)
4.39 20-yard shuffle (11th)
11.87 60-yard shuffle (6th)

Overall, it was an okay day for the Provo native. He did well in the 3-cone drill, but he has work to do to improve after finding himself in the bottom half of most drill leaderboards. Most importantly, his 40-yard dash time could have been better. A time in that range is mostly acceptable for slower, bigger, and more blocking-oriented tight ends and that is not what Dax is, he’s a catch and run guy. Hopefully he can improve upon his speed.
As far as his draft stock goes, todays outing probably didn’t give them any sort of boost. The numbers were anywhere from average to below average, but the way he went about his drills was the key. He took them in stride, looked great in The Gauntlet, and showed he can do what he’s best at: being a middle to deep receiving threat and a talented all-around athlete. I don’t think his stock went up, but I don’t know if it really took a hit either. Raymond still projects to go as high as late fifth-round/early sixth-round.
The NFL Draft starts on Thursday, April 25th.
