Welcome back to the start of the week. It’s the Monday before the madness begins and in between filling out your brackets, take a look at the latest MWC news from around the internet.

Aggies top Aztecs, win conference championship.

Utah State believed all along they could end up in this spot. Most others didn’t, but they proved everyone wrong when they hoisted the trophy and cut down the nets after clinching the automatic bid to go dancing. It was quite the turnaround for first year coach Craig Smith, who earned MWC COY and his MWC POY, Sam Merrill. Hope they can continue to pull off a few wins next weekend.

Rams got better every day.

That was the goal and Coach Bobo feels like that was accomplished during spring ball. Evident in the spring game was a consistent running game, a physical and concentrated effort by the defense who didn’t give up any big plays. A young team overall showed the effort and hustle the staff was looking for and those things should continue to carry over into the weight room, player run practices, and fall camp.

Falcons wrap up spring ball.

Air Force also concluded their spring practices over the weekend. Coach Calhoun called it the most physical and productive in his time at the academy. The final scrimmage was played by mostly younger players, trying to make the most of their time out on the field. It sounds like some of the standouts were Beau English III, Corvan Taylor, Jake Spiewak, and Josh Stoner.

Aztecs have butterflies in first scrimmage.

Literal butterflies flew around while the team attempted to go through drills and scrimmage. Ryan Agnew and Chase Jasmin got the lion-share of the snaps at QB and RB respectively (Juwan Washington was regulated to the sidelines for much of the day, a spring tradition for the SDSU starting tailbacks). Most of the offensive plays were in the spread formation and QBs lined up in the shot-gun, a drastic change from the I-formation so frequently used in the past.

Wolf Pack, Aggies get seeded for NCAA Tourney.
