#1 University of New Mexico (10-5)
The Lobos jump up to the top spot in this week’s rankings after an impressive showing in their past weekend series. Scoring an unbelievable 31 runs over the course of three games. UNM went 2-1 against Cal State Fullerton. The bats ceetainly came alive for the Cherry and Sliver, but they also had trouble keeping their oppenents off the board as well. But all in all, not a bad record for the Lobos!
Top Pitcher: Justin Slaten (6.1 IP, 3 ER, 7 SO)
Top Hitter Jared Mang (3-6, 3 R, 3 RBIs)
#2 UNLV (11-7)
The Rebels put together another solid week on both sides of the field. They went 3-1 total and took two out of three in against Bradley. UNLV scored timely runs and poured on five more in the second game of the series, but their bread and butter was on the mound. Right-handers Chase Maddux and Cameron Jabara’s dominate outings helped the Rebels find their groove in the later frames.
Top Pitcher: Cameron Jabara (8 IP, 1 ER, 5 hits, 9 K)
Top Hitter: Jack-Thomas Wold (7-19, 1 run, 5 RBIs)
#3 Nevada Wolf Pack (8-7)
Conference play hit Nevada hard this week, they fell to 1-3 this week and 1-2 in a three-game series against San Diego State. Their only win came in a 6-5 extra-innings thriller and marked the second outing in which the Pack scored three or more runs in the series. Nevada’s achilles heel this season has been mustering enough runs, and it’s taking away some quality starts from Ryan Anderson, Owen Sharts and Dalton Gomez.
Top Pitcher: Owen Sharts (5.2 IP, 1 ER, 7 Hits, 4 BB, 2 K)
Top Hitter: Tyler Bosetti (4-9, 2 runs, 2 RBIs)
#4 San Jose State University (9-7)
The Spatans went 2-1 in their weekend series against conference rival Air Force. They then closed out the weekend with a 13-0 loss to Cal. All but one of the games this weekend were a 3 run difference, so if San Jose has anything to hang their hat on, is that fact that they kept the games close. San Jose will look to get back to their winning ways this weekend against UNLV.
Top Pitcher: Andrew Mitchel (9.0 IP, 1 ER, 18 SO)
Top Hitter: Conner Konishi (2-5, 1 R, 1 RBI)
#5 Fresno State (8-4)
The Bulldogs had a tough weekend against the 25th-ranked Tennessee Volunteers. Fresno State picked up one win in the three-game series. It wasn’t due to a lack of offense, the Bulldogs recorded nine or more runs in two of the games. Defensively, Tennesee had at least 10 hits in each game and drove in six or more runs. The Bulldogs will still remain a tough beat in conference play.
Top Pitcher: Davis Moore (5.0 IP, 5 ER, 7 Hits, 4 BB, 4 K)
Top Hitter: JT Arruda (5-10, 2 runs, HR, 5 RBIs)
#6 San Diego State University (8-7)
Things got a little better for the Aztecs this past weekend. Over the course of four games, they went 3-1. They went 2-1 in conference play against Nevada, then closed out the weekend with a 11-5 vicotry over CSUN. The heavy favorites coming into this season to win the MWC title, they are struggling early in the season. But this successful weekend series might be the spark this team is looking for!
Top Pitcher: Justi Goodssen-Brown (5.0 IP, 0 ER, 6 SO)
Top Hitter: Casey Schmitt (3-4, 2 R, 1 RBI)
#7 Air Force (8-5)
The Falcons fall to the last spot on our list this week after going 2-2 this past weekend. Going 1-2 against SJSU in conference play, then picking up a win against Northern Colorado. Air Force is looking to stay in the thick of the title race this weekend, as they welcome Fresno State.
Top Pitcher: Ethan Nichols (6.0 IP, 2 ERA, 2 SO)
Top Hitter: Ashton Easley (3-5, 1 R, 1 RBI)
