Welcome to the last week of basketball for the vast majority of teams in the Mountain West. The conference tournaments begin this week for both the men and women. And with spring practices and pro days going on, football news continues as well. Catch up on all the latest news from around the MWC below.

Lobos losing another football coach.

New Mexico football has resembled a sinking ship for the past two seasons and assistant coaches are doing their best not to go down with the ship. Kevin Cosgrove. who had been the defensive coordinator for five season, was demoted to linebackers coach this offseason. That probably didn’t sit well, as he officially took a job with LSU earlier this week. Was it a lateral move? Nope, but it probably pays more. Cosgrove will be the lead defensive analyst for the team.

Court case rules against NCAA capping educational benefits.

The judge actually called it illegal for the NCAA to not allow schools to offers compensation and benefits that go beyond scholarship money and cost of attendance. However, that compensation cannot include cash. What it can include are things like computers, phones, perhaps cars. Likely things that were already happening. What will the college football landscape look like going forward? Who knows.

Wyoming Pro Day recap.

The Cowboys held their pro day on Thursday and Nico Evan and Marcus Epps stole the show. 29 NFL teams were in attendance to see the players showcase their talents. Epps displayed great speed, athleticism, and fluidness in drills. Evans, the MWC rushing leader this past year, similarly posted a great 40 time and did well in other drills. In fact, both players would’ve been among the leaders at their respective positions at the combine.

New Mexico Pro Day recap.

The Lobos had their pro day on Friday, and 13 players participated in front of a handful of NFL scouts. DB D’Angelo Ross was the star of the day, and according to the article, a few scouts told him to be ready for the draft. He doesn’t even have an agent at this time, being so overlooked due to his size. Sounds like the day served its purpose.
