Welcome to Week Two of our power rankings!
1) Nevada (6-1)
The Wolf Pack find their way to the top of this week’s list after sweeping their 4 game series this past weekend. They begin this four game set with a 5-4 win over UC Davis. They then went on to sweep the three-game series against Long Beach State. Winning 1-0, 5-3, and 3-2. Early in the season, Nevada has posted a perfect road record and will be coming home this week, as they welcome Washington State for the third-game weekend series.

2) Fresno State (5-1)
After I accidentally left the Bulldogs off our inaugural list last week, they make their proper debut in our power rankings at #2! Fresno State is off to a hot start this season, and they proving that they will be competitor for the MW title. After their first game against Utah was cancelled, the Bulldogs went on to blowout Kansas State 11-3. Then they followed that up with two more wins, one against #25 Cal State 5-2, and Missouri State 3-2. The Bulldogs welcome UNLV this weekend for their opening conference play.

The Spartans find themselves at #3 in our second week of power rankings, exactly where they were last week. They played 5 games over the course of the last week and a half. In these five games, they went 3-2. Suffering two loses to Pacific and UC Riverside. Their victories came against UC Riverside, who they defeated 2 times, and won a 7-3 game against Saint Mary’s. At 7-2, San José is in the thick of this race for the best record in the Mountain West. The Spartans will hit the road this upcoming weekend, as they come to New Mexico to take on the Lobos.

4) University of New Mexico (6-3)
The Lobos maintain their position in the power rankings going into week two. At 6-3, they also find themselves near the top of the Mountain West early in the season. With so many teams thriving early in the season, it gets harder and harder to rank them. But I feel like 4th is a good place for UNM so far. The Lobos went 4-1 over their last six games and have a 6-3 record in the early going. The Lobos went 3-1 in a four-game series against Niagara. Winning the first game 5-3, the second 7-4, the third 13-3, and then lost the last game, 3-5. The then closed out their 4 game set against Arizona 5-4. The Lobos will be welcoming the 7-2 Spartians to town this weekend, and this weekend series will have ramifications in next week’s rankings.

Top Pitcher: Nathaniel Garley vs Nagara (7.0 IP, 0 ER, 9 SO)
5) San Diego State University (5-3)
The Aztecs have taken the furthest fall in our rankings this week, dropping from #1 to #5. This is mostly due to their record over the past four games from last week. They went 2-2, losing to Oklahoma and San Diego. They took home two wins against Utah and Kansas State. The Aztecs opened up their weekend series with a 3-2 win against Utah. They followed that up with a 1-0 loss versus Oklahoma . They then went on to blowout Kansas State 10-7. They closed out the four-game set with a 2-4 loss against San Diego. The Aztecs will look to right the ship this weekend against Air Force.

6) Air Force (5-3)
The Falcons soared one spot up from last week. Air Force has a successful season so far, finding themselves at 5-3. Over the course of 4 games, the Falcons went 3-1, with one game against Navy getting postponed. They were able to make the game up with a double-header the following day. After losing their opening game to Navy 1-2, they swept the rest of the series. Winning 6-4, 7-2, and 3-2. The Falcons will play host to San Diego State this weekend in a three-game set.

Top Pitcher: Ethan Nichols vs Navy (6.0 IP, 4 H, 10 SO)
7) University of Nevada-Las Vegas (4-5)
The Rebels struggled in their last 5 games, has they went 2-3. The begin last weekend with two straight wins. The first coming against UC Santa Barbara 9-8. They then followed that up with a 2-1 win against Stanford. But the win streak would end there. They would lose their next three games in a row. Losing to Stanford twice, 2-3 and 5-6. Then lost to Utah 7-16. It was a tough period of time for UNLV. They will look to find a way back to their winning ways when they visit Fresno State this weekend.
