Tuesday links are here!

NCAA Football: Georgia State at Air Force Ray Carlin-USA TODAY Sports

Hello again everyone, another Tuesday is upon us and we have some interesting articles to keep you updated on. The 2019 football schedule has been released! We also have another AP poll and a new player of the week. Also, who is ready for soccer in San Diego?

Week 14 AP poll

Thanks to losses by Michigan and Michigan State, Nevada has jumped up two spots to number 6 in this weeks AP poll. Teams ranked 1-4 stayed the same with Tennessee still hanging on to the top spot. Nevada continues to be the only MW team to receive AP votes.

Paul Weir and Brian Dutcher falling victim to the sophomore slump

Last year New Mexico and San Diego State met in the MW tournament championship game and it looked like two of the conferences historically good basketball programs were back. This year is a different story, UNM and SDSU picked to finish 2nd and 3rd in the conference are sitting at 9th and 4th. All three of the conferences second year coaches (Weir, Dutcher, Prioleau) have worse KenPom ratings than their teams did last year. First year coaches, on the other hand, have thrived. Justin Hutson and Craig Smith have their teams tied for second in the conference.

2019 football schedules have been released

The 2019 MW football schedules have been released. The MW football season will kick off at Aloha Stadium when Hawai’i takes on Arizona on August 24th. Key non conference opponents throughout the conference include Florida St. (vs BSU), USC (vs Fresno St.), UCLA (vs SDSU), and Arkansas (vs CSU) among others. Take a look at the full schedule for every MW team.

Aztecs meet with MLS Officials

San Diego State has contacted the MLS to discuss the possibility of an MLS team playing in the new stadium that is supposed to open in 2022. After voters approved the SDSU West initiative this past November which allows SDSU to expand its campus could an MLS team come with it? The talks are only in the preliminary stage but soccer could be on its way to San Diego. A meeting also took place with the San Diego Fleet of the new AAF.
