MWC Recruiting Roundup 2-4-18

The last roundup before signing day.

NCAA Football: New Mexico Bowl-North Texas vs Utah State Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

Welcome to the first roundup of February, but the last one before signing day for the class of 2019. The next two weeks will still focus on the 2019 class before making way for the 2020 class the last Monday of February. With that all being said, take a look at what went on over the past week.

As you can see, there are a great deal of offers to players in the 2020 recruiting class. This points to most Mountain West teams being done with their 2019 class and are moving full force into 2020. Perhaps done is not the right word, as nothing is done until all the NLI have come in on Wednesday. The point being, if a team is handing out lots of 2020 offers, don’t expect any surprises when they announce their signees on the 6th.

That all being said, a few teams are still putting the finishing touches on their 2019 classes and Utah State had their second strong week in a row. They capture right before signing day.

Commitment Spotlight

TE Vance Brazile (Wyoming)

“The coaches at Wyoming we’re always very up front with me and made me feel like they constantly wanted me throughout this entire process. Also I feel like Wyoming was the best place for me to be able to compete with the other Tight ends there and have a shot at getting some playing time, whether it be at Tight end or special teams. Lastly the facilities were all very top notch and I feel like with everything provided I will really flourish as a player and also student. There were other schools recruiting me who would tell me that I’m their number one target, but when I didn’t commit and sign on the first signing day they stopped talking to me. Wyoming on the other hand kept getting me up on visits and would come visit me at school and go into greater depth about the things that the school had to offer me and that’s how I felt wanted by them as opposed to other schools. The coaches have told me that what what they liked about me at TE was that I could be put on the line and block on a run play and also they could split me out and have me run a route. When I committed they were happy because they think that I will be able to make an impact once I put on a little weight.”

OL Connor Shopp (Wyoming)

“It just felt like home and I just knew that after I talked with all the coaches and saw everything that Wyoming was the place for me. I liked the culture and mind set of all the coaches and the players. We talked about everything Wyoming has to offer and where the program is going. The coaches said they like the way I move and how long I am.

DB Demarcus Griffin-Taylor (Utah State)

“I committed to Utah State because the new staff there showed there love for me more than any other school the new coaches all had years in the nfl and that’s where I want to be someday. Coach Gary Andersen is one person I know I can put my trust in to help make me the best person I can be overall as a person. I thought it was the place for me because they are ranked in the Top 25 teams nationally so they are a good team and a place where I believe I can play right away and my family loves everything Utah State has to give. The coaches said they see me playing S/Nickel/CB there for them and said they see Me as a player that can play right away and said I’m probably one of the best technical DBs they have seen in awhile. What they like about me is that I can play Several positions such as C/S/Nickel and they like my speed and aggressiveness on the field. My best trait as a DB is I’m very patient, meaning when guarding the WR, I let The WR do his moves at the start of the route and don’t bite at them.”
