With only ten games this weekend, their aren’t nearly as many games to follow. But there is still plenty of intrigue for Mountain West teams. Here are some things to keep an eye on this weekend.
Oregon vs. Utah (PAC 12 Championship)
The outcome of this game really doesn’t matter for the Mountain West. But I think it is good to finish the season ranked as highly as possible. If Utah beats Oregon, Boise State could pass them with a comfortable win over Hawaii. It would also be cool to see a west coast team in the playoff again. The Utes have a chance if they can pull of the win Friday night.
Ohio State vs. Wisconsin (Big Ten Championship)
Same premise here. If Ohio State wins convincingly, Boise State may be able to leapfrog Wisconsin in the rankings. Ohio State has looked like the best team in the country in recent weeks, I don’t see that changing this weekend.
Cincinnati vs. Memphis (AAC Championship)
Hate or love Boise State, the Cotton Bowl money and recognition would be great for the Mountain West. If Cincinnati can pull of the upset (I don’t think they will) and Boise State can get the win, the Broncos would likely be heading to Texas to take on another Power Five team. With Cincinnati only one spot behind the Broncos, it is possible that they could leapfrog Boise State. The best case scenario is a blowout win for the Broncos and a narrow victory for the Bearcats. Could a Boise State vs. Alabama matchup be on the horizon? I doubt it, but it is possible. Also, Boise State going to the Cotton Bowl could lead to Hawaii playing in Las Vegas, a win-win for both teams.
What did I miss? What are you guys expecting to happen this weekend?
