Sanchez goes out on top, week 5 AP poll, Henderson named starter

NCAA Football: Boise State at Colorado State Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Everyone better be excited, because its championship week! Leading up to the big weekend we have news from around the conference, including a look at Tony Sanchez’s last game, Boise State’s QB situation and the new basketball AP poll.

Tony Sanchez finishes his stint with UNLV the right way

Over the course of the 5 years that Tony Sanchez was at the helm of Rebels football there have been a lot of ups and downs. While his time with UNLV wasn’t always great his last hurrah sure was. Sanchez goes out on a high note, leading the Rebels to a second consecutive win over Nevada and ensuring the Rebels retained the Fremont Cannon. It was an emotional day for Sanchez that I’m sure he will never forget.

Week 5 AP poll

The latest AP poll is out and it still features only one MW team. Utah state falls 10 spots from number 15 all the way to the last spot at 25. Utah state suffered their first loss of the season and even though they lost on the road to a strong St. Mary’s team, still with out star big man Neemias Queta, they took a 10 spot tumble down the rankings. San Diego State, who many thought deserved a spot in the rankings, checks in with the 3rd most votes of teams outside the top 25. The Aztecs have had a strong start to the season with their last 2 wins over NCAA tournament hopefuls, Creighton and Iowa, by a combined 41 points.

Henderson is Boise State’s QB for conference championship

HC Bryan Harsin has declared Jaylon Henderson Boise State’s starter against Hawaii this weekend and have moved him to the top of the team’s depth chart. Harsin says the senior has played well and has proven he can lead this team. Hank Bachmeier and Chase Cord will be available to play but Henderson gets the start under center. Boise State still has a shot at a NY6 bowl.

MW enters postseason play tied for 1st in non-conference P5 wins
