We are two-thirds of the way through the college football regular season and one thing is becoming clear, the Mountain West could have a lot of bowl eligible teams. This is great for the Mountain West and its conference members, but finding a place for each team might be challenging. This is how our team sees things going at the moment:
Zach:
Las Vegas Bowl: Boise State
Hawaii Bowl: Hawaii
New Mexico Bowl: Wyoming
Potato Bowl: Nevada
Arizona Bowl: Fresno State
Cheez-it Bowl: San Diego State
First Responders Bowl: Utah State
Armed Forces Bowl: Air Force
At the moment, I have eight Mountain West teams going bowling and that seems to be the consensus among the experts. If San Jose can find a way to get a victory over Fresno State or Hawaii, they might get nine. I still think Boise State gets the Cotton Bowl if they win out and San Diego might have a chance as well. Memphis and Cincinnati both have a few tough games left including a matchup to close the season. It is possible that they play two weeks in a row.
Mike:
Las Vegas Bowl: Boise State
Hawaii Bowl: Hawaii
New Mexico Bowl: Wyoming
Potato Bowl: Utah State
Arizona Bowl: Fresno State
Cheez-it Bowl: San Diego State
Armed Forces Bowl: Air Force
After a one week hiatus, I have Fresno State back in the fold. It was a good, hard-fought win against Hawaii. Utah State (and Hwaii for that matter) are on thin ice, especially now with Woodward being out for the year. Also, I’m really pulling for SJSU to make a bowl, but as they need to win two out of three, I’ll hold off to see how they do against Hawaii or Fresno.
Bruce:
Las Vegas Bowl: Boise State
Hawaii Bowl: Hawaii
New Mexico Bowl: Wyoming
Potato Bowl: Nevada
Arizona Bowl: Fresno State
Cheez-it Bowl: San Diego State
First Responders Bowl: Utah State
Armed Forces Bowl: Air Force
Different lineup than last week. Boise State will definitely not be in the Cotton Bowl after the performance at San Jose State even though they pulled off with a win. Besides that, I threw in Nevada in the bowl projections since they have been improving lately. The Wolf Pack will need to win all their next upcoming games if they want to be in a better bowl than where I put them in for now.
Alex Wright:
Las Vegas Bowl: Boise State
Hawaii Bowl: Hawaii
New Mexico Bowl: Fresno State
Potato Bowl: Nevada
Arizona Bowl: Utah State
Cheez-it Bowl: San Diego State
First Responders Bowl: Wyoming
Armed Forces Bowl: Air Force
I put UNR back in my bowl projections, as I think they will win another game or two and get bowl eligible. San Jose State and Colorado State have tough games remaining, and if they do find a way to be bowl eligible, they night get snubbed from a bowl bid. I think eight is the max amount of bowl teams the conference will get. Boise State in still in play for the Cotton Bowl bid, the American will need to cannibalize itself, but there is a chance that happens.
