Bronco Blitz: Boise State @ Utah State

The Broncos coast in Logan

NCAA Football: Boise State at Utah State Brian Losness-USA TODAY Sports

Third string quarterback? No problem. Banged up offensive line? No problem. Boise State came out with their most creative game plan of the year and it paid off. The Broncos coasted to an easy victory in Logan. Let’s revisit some questions I had heading into the game and see how they turned out for the Broncos.

What impact does this game have on the Mountain West championship?

Boise State came away with the victory and will host the Mountain West Championship. The Broncos were a determined squad that played with a chip on their shoulder. Their were plenty of people (myself included) that were skeptical of the Broncos chances in this game. The coaches deserve a ton of credit for this win. The recruiting and talent gap showed in this one.

What impact will injuries have?

Henderson got the start for the second consecutive game and starting RG Eric Quevedo was out with injuries. With that being said, the Broncos were able to come out and execute on offense and assert their dominance in the run game.

Can the Bronco secondary slow down this potent passing attack?

Jalen Walker picked a great came to have his best performance of the year. Walker was tasked with covering Jordan Love’s favorite target in Siaosi Mariner. The pick six by Walker set the tone for the Bronco defense and a consistent pass rush was just enough to keep Jordan Love uncomfortable.

How will Boise State fans view this season if Boise State loses?

It was a fair question, but it doesn’t matter. The Broncos came ready to play and took care of business from the opening possession. It was a great game plan by the coaches and execution by the players.

My Prediction: I predicted a 31-28 victory for the Broncos. I thought the secondary would struggle against Jordan Love and his receivers and the Broncos would do just enough on offense to come away with the victory. However, the offense came out with a terrific game plan and the offensive line put in their best performance of the year. Boise State was able to come away with the 56-21 victory and they will host Hawaii for the Mountain West Championship in two weeks.
