Mountain West Bowl Projections: Week 13

The Mountain West will have its biggest weekend of the regular season in just a few days. The West will be decided on the islands when San Diego State travels to Hawaii. The Mountain has a critical showdown in Logan with Boise State and Utah State. If the Broncos win they clinch the division and will host the championship game. If Utah State wins and Air Force defeats New Mexico, we will have a three way tie headed into the final week of the regular season. Here is how our team sees things shaking out:

Zach:

Las Vegas Bowl: Boise State

Hawaii Bowl: Hawaii vs. BYU

New Mexico Bowl: Wyoming

Potato Bowl: Nevada

Arizona Bowl: San Diego State

Cheez-It Bowl: Utah State

Armed Forces Bowl: Air Force

I thought long and hard about putting Boise State in the Cheez-It Bowl, I mean Phoenix is a second home for Boise State and its fans. But the Broncos still deserve to be slotted in the Vegas Bowl with their 9-1 record. But the Aggies are going to be difficult to beat on the road, especially with the strong possibility that the Broncos will be down to their third string quarterback and will probably be without Curtis Weaver. But a three way tie in the Mountain is still very possible and that would likely favor the Broncos.

Las Vegas Bowl: Boise State

Hawaii Bowl: Hawaii vs. BYU

New Mexico Bowl: Utah State

Potato Bowl: Wyoming

Arizona Bowl: Nevada

Cheez-It Bowl: San Diego State

Armed Forces Bowl: Air Force

These should be the seven MWC bowl teams this season. I’m locking Hawaii into the Hawaii bowl, despite BYU taking the MWC spot this season against the AAC. Despite a few tweets saying it’s unlikely Hawaii will get the spot back in an ESPN bowl trade. Boise State could see themselves move out of Vegas depending on how next week shakes out. Maybe all of these projections are wrong, but thinking these are the teams and these are the bowls in some order.

A few changes in the lineup. Utah State is surprising a lot of Mountain West fans. They survived against a good Wyoming team. The Aggies have a great chance to tie with Boise State in the Mountain division for first place if they can pull an upset in front of a home crowd in their next game. So buckle up Mountain West fans! Expect a great game between these two teams at Utah State.

I officially took out Fresno State after its loss against San Diego State. The Spartans have a chance of getting bowl eligible, but I feel only seven Mountain West teams will get to a bowl game. I still see a path for Boise State to get to a Cotton Bowl, but they will need help from a few teams.
