Week six of the college football season is behind us and the Mountain West continues to be a conference full of teams that are difficult to predict. Our team takes a crack at projecting which teams are going bowling and where they are headed.
Zach:
Las Vegas Bowl: Utah State
Hawaii Bowl: Hawaii
New Mexico Bowl: Fresno State
Potato Bowl: San Diego State
Arizona Bowl: Wyoming
Armed Forces Bowl: Air Force
Cotton Bowl: Boise State
I didn’t make any changes, but I considered adding San Jose State. They are going to have to surprise at least one team to get to six wins though. Also, I considered taking Boise State out of the Cotton Bowl, they are a flawed team right now and will be on upset alert the next two weeks. Keep an eye on Wyoming, their fan base travels well and might move up the bowl chain. Also, there is a good chance that BYU takes the Mountain West spot in the Hawaii Bowl. If that’s the case, keep an eye on Hawaii who could be an attractive “free agent” with nine or ten wins.
Mike:
Las Vegas Bowl: Utah State
Hawaii Bowl: Hawaii
New Mexico Bowl: Wyoming
Potato Bowl: San Diego State
Arizona Bowl: Fresno State
Armed Forces Bowl: Air Force
Cotton Bowl: Boise State
I flipped Utah State and Hawaii back, as the Warriors like to stay home for bowls. The Aggies, Broncos and Falcons didn’t have great showings this week but they all look like bowl locks. The Aztecs look like a team on the rise, while the Cowboys and Bulldogs are on the shakiest ground. San Jose State would be on my next team up list. Still a ways to go for them but they have my attention.
Bruce:
Las Vegas Bowl: Utah State
Hawaii Bowl: Hawaii
New Mexico Bowl: Fresno State
Potato Bowl: San Diego State
Arizona Bowl: Wyoming
Armed Forces Bowl: Air Force
Cotton Bowl: Boise State
No changes from this week once again. But there were some surprising teams like San Jose State. They can be in the bowl conversations if they keep on winning in the next few weeks. But for Boise State, they have to be extra careful for this coming week. They will have to improve their game to be eligible for the cotton bowl.
Alex Wright:
Las Vegas Bowl: Utah State
Hawaii Bowl: Hawaii
New Mexico Bowl: Fresno State
Potato Bowl: Wyoming
Arizona Bowl: San Diego State
Armed Forces Bowl: Air Force
Cotton Bowl: Boise State
No changes to my projections this week. There is still a lot of football left to play, and teams like San Jose State or UNR could be contending for bowl eligibility near the end of the season.
Jake McNeil:
Las Vegas Bowl: San Diego State
Hawaii Bowl: Hawaii
New Mexico Bowl: Wyoming
Potato Bowl: Utah State
Arizona Bowl: Fresno State
Cotton Bowl: Boise State
Right now I’ve got Hawaii losing a rematch to Boise State in the MWCCG, and then being skipped over for the Las Vegas Bowl by SDSU. That allows Hawaii to stay home and beat BYU. Boise State is the G5 frontrunner for the NY6 until they lose a game, and everyone else just sort of falls into a spot where they haven’t played for a minute or that makes some geographical sense for the bowls. No SJSU this week, but if they beat Nevada on the road we are going to have some fresh faces in the Potato Bowl, you guys!

No reason to make any changes still. This upcoming weekend could really shake things up though.
