Mountain West in the Polls: Week 9

One team moves up despite being on a bye

NCAA Football: Hawaii at Boise State Brian Losness-USA TODAY Sports

Week nine is behind us and we are just over a week away from the first college football playoff poll. The race for the Group of Five is likely down to six teams (SMU, Cincinnati, Memphis, Appalachian State, Boise State, and San Diego State) with Memphis and SMU likely an elimination game on Saturday night. The Mountain West was still represented in both polls, here is how things are currently shaping up:

After a narrow win, San Diego State has entered the AP Poll at number 25, while the Broncos are number 21 in both the AP and Coaches Poll. San Diego State is one spot outside of the Coaches Poll with 94 points, while Air Force received 3 points and Wyoming received 2 points.

There are some key matchups that Mountain West fans should be keeping an eye on. SMU travels to Memphis to take on the Tigers, Appalachian State hosts Georgia Southern on Halloween night and Cincinatti travels to ECU. The Broncos and Aztecs will need some help, but they are still in the thick of the Group of Five race. Navy and UCF are also names that are still worth keeping an eye on.
