Today’s edition of Mountaintop View features mid-week football links as well as the first AP poll of the college basketball season. Enjoy.
Wyoming looking to boost passing game
It is well known that Wyoming has struggled to find any consistency in the passing game this year, but a stronger performance this past week against New Mexico has the team looking to build a better air attack. This was the first game Wyoming has completed more than half of their passes since November of last year. Chambers finished with 86 yards, which might not seem like much, but was a big improvement for this Cowboys offense. The Cowboys won’t suddenly change their whole offensive scheme but Chambers will look to build off last week’s success in the upcoming game against Nevada.
Mike Schmidt puts on a show against Hawaii
Mike Schmidt started the season off as the third string QB but didn’t look like it this past weekend against Hawaii. Schmidt threw the ball only 6 times but completed 5 passes for 147 yards and a touchdown, he also ran for over 100 yards and 3 TDs en route to a dominant win. Air Force has established themselves as one of the better teams in the mountain division and they showed no signs of regression even with their third string QB at the helm.
First basketball AP poll
Basketball season is almost here and the first AP poll of the year has been released. The Mountain West has one team ranked and that is Utah State checking in at number 17. No other MWC teams received votes. Check out the full run down of the top 25.
