Air Force stuff, Boise State stuff, other stuff

NCAA Football: Fresno State at Air Force Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports

Lavelle Scottie first Air Force basketball player picked to preseason all-Mountain West team in 14 years

For the first time in ages, an Air Force men’s basketball player was picked on the preseason All-Mountain West first-team. Senior Lavelle Scottie, the 6’7” forward from Texas, earned that respect last season averaging 15 points per game despite health issues. Expect a big year from the Falcons on the hardwood.

Unique environment awaits Air Force football in Hawaii, even if the beach does not

No rest for the weary. Air Force football travels to Oahu to take on the Hawaii Warriors in a game that has the potential to end up being an elimination game in the Mountain West race. Air Force is coming off a convincing win vs. Fresno State, Hawaii is returning home after a loss to Boise State. Both team’s have one conference loss (both coming against the Broncos). Winner stays alive, loser faces a win out or get out scenario.

Broncos see fifth-place prediction as ‘respect’, but have goals set higher

Boise State men’s basketball sent seniors Justinian Jessup and Alex Hobbs to Mountain West Media Days, and they knew the questions were coming: why did the Broncos lose an insane amount of close games last season? Read their response and why this year could be a breakout season for this team.

Notebook: Mountain West moving closer to 20-game league schedule

The title is a spoiler: the Mountain West could be shifting from an 18-game conference schedule to a 20-game conference schedule, and it could happen as soon as next season.

Fresno State loses top 2020 quarterback recruit Jaden Casey, who is jumping to a Pac-12 school

When it rains, it pours. Top quarterback recruits committing to Mountain West programs doesn’t happen often, which is why Calabasas High quarterback Jaden Casey flipping to California stings for the Fresno State Bulldogs. Casey was expected to compete with recent Washington Huskies transfer Jake Haener for the QB job in 2020.

Mountain West welcomes Alford’s return, but will the Pit?

New Nevada men’s basketball coach Steve Alford is not an unfamiliar face in Mountain West circles. He once coached at New Mexico. Alford is glad to be back in an area that passionately cares about basketball (a subtle shot at UCLA) and likens Reno’s passion to New Mexico’s. It will be interesting to see how Alford is treated when he returns to Albuquerque.
