Quick Take
A good game. Wyoming was up 14-3 at one point in the 2nd quarter. San Diego State responded and was up 19-14 going into the 4th quarter. Wyoming took the lead on a TD with 6:49 to go, but San Diego State responded with a super-clutch TD drive of their own to regain the lead. Wyoming could not repsond as the Aztecs would get an interception and run out the clock for the win.
The Recap
The first quarter proved to be the defensive struggle that was expected between these two teams. San Diego State got a 47 yard field goal late in the quarter to take a 3-0 lead.
In the 2nd quarter, Wyoming settled in (a pattern this season). Buoyed by a long run from Valladay and a long pass play to Gentry, the Cowboys went down the field for a TD.

From here, the teams exchanged punts. Wyoming would fumble on their punt return though, giving the Aztecs great field position at the Wyoming 25.
Luckily, the Cowboy defense would hold, forcing a field goal attempt on 4th down. The Aztecs would miss the 38 yard field goal, and Wyoming avoided following further behind.
The Cowboy offense responded by driving down the field for a TD to retake the lead.

The Aztecs responded with their own clutch drive. In a game that seemed likely to be a defensive contest, both offenses put together big 4th quarter TD drives. The drive from the Aztecs would prove to be the winning one.

Final Thoughts
A really good game. As a Wyoming fan, I was disappointed that the Cowboys lost. Still, it was a very entertaining game as a football fan. As I’d anticipated, these teams are pretty evenly matched. Credit to the Aztecs. Their offense made some clutch plays to come back twice in the 2nd half. They look like a good football team.
Also, I’ve enjoyed these San Diego State games, going back to 2016. Some really good games. Hopefully, next year in Laramie will be another good one.
For Wyoming, head back to Laramie and prepare to host New Mexico next Saturday. At 4-2, Wyoming still looks like a solid team that can finish the season with a winning record and a bowl game. Just need to be ready to rebound next week against the Lobos.
