Two Mountain West teams projected in March Madness
NCAA.com basketball expert Andy Katz released his most recent tournament bracket projection, and it includes two teams from the Mountain West. He slotted Nevada as a 3-seed in the South region, squaring off against CS Bakersfield in the first round. Fresno State got the 13th seed in the Midwest region, facing St. John’s in the first round.
Bobo declines pay raise
CSU coach Mike Bobo’s contract includes annual raises of $100,000. He declined to accept the raise after this past season in which the Rams underachieved and went 3-9. Bobo believes one of the team’s issues was a lack of accountability, and he aims to show the team that accountability starts with him by forgoing the raise. Athletic director Tony Parker still remains confident in Bobo despite the lackluster season.
Nevada lands Last Chance U star
Nevada picked up quarterback transfer Malik Henry from Florida State, who will join the team later this month. Henry is a former 4-star recruit and was ranked in the top 50 overall in the 2016 class by multiple services. Henry was also featured on “Last Chance U”, the Netflix show that documents players looking for a second chance at Independence Community College. After having multiple issues with authority in his past, the Wolfpack hope he can fulfill his potential and take over for departing quarterback Ty Gangi.
CSU guard leaves team
The Rams' redshirt junior Lorenzo Jenkins announced he will be leaving the team prior to their game against Air Force on Tuesday night. Jenkins started the team's first 8 games but hasn't played in the last 4. He intends to transfer and play at a different school. The Rams beat Air Force 87-64.
