Jeremy starts the year 1/1 in remembering to type “19” at the end of the date instead of “18”. These are your daily Mountain West links.
Athlon Sports, one of the top preseason football magazines that typically comes out in the spring, released their annual Way-Too-Early 2019 Top 25 poll. Obviously it’s very premature, but it’s interesting to get a gauge on where perceptions are. Boise State is the only Mountain West team that makes the article, albeit in the “Other teams to watch” section.
Jeremy Moussa, one of the top recruits from Hawaii’s 2018 recruiting class, is transferring to a junior college. It’s not a stunner, really. When Cole McDonald, Chevan Cordeiro, and Moussa entered the battle for the starting quarterback job, we knew the math wasn’t working here. Someone was likely to transfer sooner rather than later, and that someone ended up being Moussa. Don’t be surprised if the California native ends up being pretty good somewhere else.
Mountain West Conference play has finally begun! Sure, Nevada probably has the league locked, but we’ll watch anyway. One of the earlier results in the night was Boise State getting a much-needed boost in Laramie vs. the Cowboys, albeit a Cowboys team dealing with some insane injury woes right now. Alex Hobbs, Justinian Jessup, and Derrick Alston all scored in double figures. The race for 3rd in the Mountain West is wide open!
The Wolf Pack continue to be a bunch of meanies. No. 6 Nevada rolled the Utah State Aggies in route to a 72-49 win, despite this being a contest between what many perceived to be the top two teams in the conference. The undefeated talk continues to build.
