Welcome to the start of another week. It’s Monday and there was quite a bit of news in the Mountain West over the weekend. Take a look at what we compiled for you over the weekend and also take a sneak peak at some of our original content coming your way this week.
Mountain West admits officiating error
If you were watching college basketball this weekend or even just scrolling through your twitter feed, you probably saw a video about a controversial back-court violation call in the Utah State/New Mexico game. The MWC released an official statement on Saturday evening saying the call was incorrect, and will continue to be addressed through evaluation.
Aztecs win with ease.
San Diego State and UNLV was a big rivalry with conference-impacting implications not too long ago. This year, the game between the two played on Saturday was just another MWC game. Though both teams aren’t anywhere close to being atop the conference standings like past years, the Aztecs beat the Rebels handily. Star player Jalen McDaniels had a monster game for SDSU, tallying 27 points, 13 rebounds, 5 steals and 4 assists.
Rams upsets Bulldogs
This game did not go according to script for Fresno State. They came out on the wrong end of a 74-65 upset to Colorado State. The Rams rebounded extremely well from their embarrassing loss Nevada earlier this week. Colorado State still made quite a few mistakes in the second half and down the line, almost giving the game away. However, they pulled through and picked up a much need win as well as confidence.
Can Anderson get back to success?
Gary Anderson left his first tenure at Utah State for Wisconsin. He was okay there but suddenly left to go back west, taking the Oregon State job. He didn’t last long there either, resigning from the job after just over two years. Now the question becomes, how can Anderson reverse the trend of struggling and recapture the success he had with the Aggies the first time around?
