Welcome to another Tuesday. The Mountain West continues to be wildly unpredictable on the basketball court. We have continued basketball news as well as a lot of offseason coaching changes in MW football.
Colorado State losing cornerbacks coach to Boston College
CSU cornerbacks coach Eric Lewis is reported to be heading to Boston College to be the defensive backs coach. This news comes on the heels of Mike Bobo stressing the importance of keeping his coaching staff intact. Lewis had only been with the Rams for one season but has NFL experience and has coached at numerous colleges. Lewis also played his college ball at San Diego State and is the son of longtime NFL coach Sherman Lewis.
Week 12 AP poll
There are no more unbeaten teams in college basketball. Michigan dropped from 2 to 5 while Virginia, despite losing to Duke, has moved up to 2. Tennessee is now the number one team in the nation. Nevada, tied for the most wins in the country, moves up to #7.
Nevada is reportedly losing defensive line coach to UCLA
Jason Kaufusi is expected to be the newest member of Chip Kelly’s UCLA staff. Kaufusi is expected to be the defensive ends and outside linebackers coach at UCLA. Kaufusi has previously spent time as a coach for BYU, Utah, and Weber State. Coach Kaufusi helped turn Nevada’s once abysmal run defense into a team that finished 27th in the nation in sacks (35) this past season. The Wolf Pack will be looking to fill a significant assistant coaching position going forward.
Wyoming defensive coordinator is heading to Kansas State
Wyoming’s defensive coordinator Scottie Hazelton is expected to become the DC for Kansas State. Craig Bohl will be looking to replace Hazelton, who spent 3 seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars before coming to Wyoming. In 2017 Hazelton’s Cowboy defense led the nation in takeaways. Coach bohl now needs to find a new defensive coordinator in addition to a new TE coach after Mike Bath left for Western Michigan earlier in the offseason.
