Let’s look at the big MWC wins.

NCAA Football: Fresno State at UCLA Robert Hanashiro-USA TODAY Sports

It’s Monday and what a week we had in the Mountain West Conference. The MWC played 4 games against the PAC-12 (contrary to what I tweeted yesterday). They had arguably four good showings and came away with 3 wins. Overall, they went 7-4 (Air Force had a bye) this week. Today’s articles focus on some of the wins from this week. Happy readying.

Bulldogs in charge from the get go.

It’s hard to call them an underdog here, so we won’t. But that doesn’t take away from the complete win Fresno State displayed over a still-winless Bruins team. The Bulldogs needs a bounce-back win in a big way after letting one slip against Minnesota. Safe to say they got it.

Aztecs pull off the upset.

San Diego State was going up a ranked and media darling of the week Arizona State team. They were coming off a loss to Stanford and a close call against Sacramento State. They showed the doubters they are still who they always are. They rushed and rushed and rushed some more until the game ended with them on top. Washington looks every bit the feature back they thought he would be.

Cowboys survive, get back in win column.

There were some whispers around the MWCConnection writing team that this could be tough game for Wyoming. We weren’t wrong. They trailed in the 4th before taking a late lead to survive. Credit to the Cowboys for surviving and their offense for scoring when they needed to. However, Wyoming hasn’t looked great since their opening win.

Wolf Pack take down the Beavers.

In the third PAC-12 win of the day, Nevada took down Oregon State at home. Sure it was a two-point win. Sure it was Oregon State, who is a PAC-12 school in name only this season. But it shows the growth of the Wolf Pack in year 2 of the Norvell era.

UNLV gets a big win.

This game was never in doubt. It was 34-0 at halftime and it probably wasn’t even that close. For the Revels to take the next step in their development, they can’t just win the games they should like this one. They need to dominate them. And they did. They have one more non-conference game against an interesting Arkansas State team and then start conference play. But UNLV is right where they should be three weeks in.

On the horizon:

  • From yesterday: Don’t forget to look at the recaps. Utah State, Boise State, Hawaii, Wyoming, Fresno State.
  • Later today: Kick off your Monday by reading about the visitors from this past weekend in the MWC Recruiting Roundup.
  • Later today: A few more recaps for you.
  • Coming Tuesday: You won’t want to miss Week 3 of the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.
