NCAA Football: Boise State at Wyoming Troy Babbitt-USA TODAY Sports

Finally Friday! Another week is almost in the books and another Saturday full of football games in just around the bend. Get caught up on some MWC stories to get you through the day.

This week in the Group of 5 Drive.

Chris Vannini, in his weekly column in the Athletic, calls Boise State/Oklahoma State “the best game no one is talking about it”. He talked to Coach Harsin, who credits execution for their 2-0 start. He doesn’t make a prediction on the game, but figures it will be a shootout and notes the Broncos have to keep pace with the Cowboy’s offense.

The McElwain Bowl is coming.

That’s the name given to the upcoming game between Colorado State and Florida. It was part of the buyout agreement instead of the full monetary amount when Jim McElwain left the Rams for the Gators. In unintended twist, McElwain is no longer at Florida. But the game is still played because of him and many are wondering if the Rams can build upon their win from last week.

A revival on the islands.

That’s the term being used in this Washington Post article to describe Hawaii football this year since they have brought back the run-and-shoot. Coach Rolovich opens up a bit about what he calls his “worst season in football”, citing the culture problems in the locker room and describing his daily work as being a firefighter. He also mentions the difficulties or uniqueness of living on the islands, including the travel stress for the program. It’s a nice look into Hawaii football.

Is there any hope for the Spartans against the Ducks?

Our old pal Vic is trying to find bright spots anywhere he can as San Jose State will have its second game in a row against a PAC-12 team. He points out how they need to stop waiting for the 2nd half to show up and play. Also, the article mentions the need to stop overthinking about what not to do and just to go out and play and to let their playmakers get the majority of plays their way. Again, what do they have to lose at this point?

Can Boise State add to their legacy?

That’s the question being asked by Dave Southorn here. The Broncos are no stranger to big games, and big wins, over the years. However, they only have 3 true road wins against ranked teams. Also, this 2018 team isn’t the Kellen Moore era teams. This article details how the team’s preparation and focus has been this season, starting all the way back to spring semester workouts. This isn’t their Super Bowl, it’s a tough game against a tough opponent as they try to win the week. It’s certainly one of the top matchups of the week around CFB.
