UNLV-Praire View Preview

Game Time:

8:00 PM MST

Location:

Sam Boyd Stadium

Another week, another easy game for the UNLV Rebels. This time they will be facing off against the Prairie View Panthers. The Panthers are the second FCS team the Rebel’s will be facing this season. The Rebel’s (1-1) are coming into this game as 95 percent favorites according to the ESPN matchup predictor. Being at home will also give the Rebels a favorable advantage.

Getting to know the Panthers:

The Panthers are members of the South Western Athletic Conference. Coming from Prairie View, Texas the Panthers finished third in the SWAC in 2017, with an overall record of 6-5 and 4-3 in the conference. The Panthers opened up this season with a 31-28 loss to Rice University and followed with a 40-24 win over North Carolina Central University. In their third game of the season, the Panthers lost to Sam Houston State 41-32. They are coming into this game against UNLV 1-2 on the season before they open conference play against Arkansas Pine-Bluff.

The Matchup:

UNLV is the clear favorite in this game as they were against UTEP last week. This game will be good for the Rebels to practice reps on the offensive and defensive side of the ball before they open conference play against New Mexico. UNLV will not have too hard of a time moving the ball up and down the field against the Panthers. The offensive line has done a good job protecting Armani Rodgers against the opposing teams pass rush, and Saturday won’t be any different. UNLV is stronger on both sides of the ball and faster in the backfield which will prove easy for the Rebels when they face off against the Panthers.

My Prediction:

UNLV will take this game easily again. Given every mismatch the Rebels have plus the home field advantage it will be UNLV’s game to lose. However, this could be a trap game for the Rebels. UNLV is coming off of a big win in which they didn’t have to work very hard to get. They should come out ready to play, however if they don’t they could find themselves in trouble early in the game. All of that is unlikely however, the Rebels will take this game with a final score of 35-10.
