Mountain West Connection Preseason Bowl Projections

Each week members of the Mountain West Connection team will be completing bowl projections. With the lack of bowl tie-ins for the Mountain West, some of these bowl projections required quite a bit of research. We will start with the obvious Mountain West tie-ins and then things get interesting.

Zach: I am assuming the conference has seven bowl eligible teams. I think the number could be as low as five and as high as eight. If there are eight bowl eligible teams, the conference needs to hope there are some empty spots or a few teams could be left home.

Las Vegas Bowl: Fresno State vs. Cal

Hawaii Bowl: Utah State vs. Western Kentucky

New Mexico Bowl: Wyoming vs. Marshall

Arizona Bowl: Colorado State vs. Louisiana-Lafayette

Potato Bowl: Nevada vs. Western Michigan

Fiesta Bowl: Boise State vs. Penn State

Cactus Bowl (Assuming a PAC-12 team makes the playoff): San Diego State vs. Iowa State

Matt: I’m thinking we get 7 teams, just barely. Like, the Fremont Cannon game decides the 7th team barely.

Fiesta Bowl: Fresno State v. TCU

Las Vegas Bowl: Boise State v. Arizona

Hawaii Bowl: Colorado State v. Middle Tennessee

New Mexico Bowl: Air Force v. Marshall

Arizona Bowl: Nevada v. UL-L

Potato Bowl: Wyoming v. Buffalo

Heart of Dallas Bowl: San Diego State v. Nebraska

FatDuckUW: I think the conference will have seven bowl-eligible teams. That said, the MWC is only guaranteed five spots. I think the conference would, at least, get 6 bowl invites. As such, I’ll have 6 teams bowling in my projection.

Las Vegas Bowl: San Diego State vs Colorado

Hawaii Bowl: Colorado State vs North Texas

New Mexico Bowl: Air Force vs Middle Tennessee State

Arizona Bowl: Wyoming vs. Louisiana-Monroe

Potato Bowl: Fresno State vs. Miami (OH)

Frisco Bowl: Boise State vs. Tulane

Mike: I’m also thinking 6 bowl teams as of now, although 7 wouldn’t surprise me. I agree with Matt that the last spot likely comes down to the Cannon Game.
