Fall camp is here and we have you covered. Here are some articles from beat writers covering their respective teams as they prepare for the season:
Defense rules the day in Hawaii’s Saturday scrimmage
New Hawaii defensive coordinator Corey Batoon’s unit wins the day in Hawaii’s scrimmage, with cornerback Eugene Ford having a stellar performance. Quarterback Cole McDonald had the best day of the QBs, but overall that unit was inconsistent. Expect Hawaii to name a starting QB within a week or two.
These offensive players impressed in CSU football’s first scrimmage
You didn’t think Colorado State’s offense was just going to disappear, did you? Warren Jackson and hyped recruit Nikko Hall are names to stash away as graduate transfer quarterback K.J. Carta-Samuels and the Rams’ offense look to surprise doubters in 2018. The Rams led the Mountain West in total offense in 2017 and figure to be toward the top again this fall.
Fresno State testing out new remote-controlled tackling dummy
The robot tackling dummy was interviewed and definitely feels slighted to have not been a preseason first-team all-Mountain West selection.*
*not really, at least I don’t think.
Urlacher gives emotional Hall of Fame speech
Former New Mexico Lobo Safety (yes, apparently wasn’t switched to linebacker until he arrived in Chicago) Brian Urlacher was elected to the NFL Hall-of-fame over the weekend. Urlacher blossomed under current San Diego State head coach Rocky Long while at New Mexico, and parlayed that great college career in to a legendary pro career with the Chicago Bears.
UNLV’s Tony Sanchez opposes new rule on kickoffs
Sanchez feels that this new rule is going to lead to college football eventually eliminating the kickoff altogether, and he is no fan of that possibility. Displeasure aside, the Rebels are tinkering with new kickoff strategies.
