Here’s some reading material to get you through to Thursday night. We’ve officially survived the off-season.
Since CSU coach Mike Bobo was hospitalized earlier this month, his status has been up in the air. He coached from the booth in Saturday’s loss to Hawaii while assistant coach Ronnie Letson called the offensive plays in his absence. Bobo is unsure whether he’ll be ready to return to the sideline this Friday in the Rocky Mountain Showdown or if he’ll continue to coach from the booth.
Boise State isn’t underestimating Troy after last season’s close game. The Trojans only lost one other game last year, and they’ll provide a good early season test for the Broncos. Boise may be 10-point favorites, but head coach Bryan Harsin isn’t allowing that to affect their mindset heading into the game. Don’t expect the Broncos to struggle due to a lack of preparation in their first game.
San Jose State plays in the Mountain West’s lone Thursday night game in week 1 against UC Davis. UC Davis plays in the FCS’s Big Sky Conference and had a 5-6 record last season. The Aggies should provide a good warm-up test to gauge how much Brent Brennan’s young Spartan team has progressed over the offseason.
Boise State and Fresno State remain at the top of these rankings, but Wyoming and Hawaii move up after Week 0 wins. Expect the rankings to shuffle quite a bit after the first full week of football.
