The Broncos host their annual Fall event

Boise State Fan Fest
Zach Ballard

The Broncos hosted their annual Fan Fest event at Albertson’s Stadium this Saturday. I was their to witness the event. Here are my takeaways:

  • Octavius Evans was surprisingly in uniform, but he was noticeably limited and did not participate in the majority of drills. I would be shocked if he is full go next week.
  • Evans is also wearing the number one jersey, this is a big deal at Boise State. The Broncos traditionally allow one of their most dynamic play makers to wear #1. Some former Broncos to wear number one include Cedrick Wilson, Shane Williams-Rhodes, and Titus Young.
  • David Moa was also in uniform. I could not see how much he participated in live activities. However, it is very encouraging that he was well enough to be in uniform.
  • The first string Bronco offense usually had two tight ends (John Bates and Chase Blakely). Modster, Richardson, Hightower, Thomas, Shakir, and Bowens all took snaps with the first string offense at wide receiver.
  • Kicker, Haden Hoggarth, was put on scholarship.
  • The secondary looks really good, the offense could not do much throwing the ball down the field.
  • It looks like Avery Williams might be returning punts and kicks. But in a bit of a surprise, Alexander Mattison was returning kicks and looked really good as he took one to the house.
  • Wickersham went with ones at LB. It look like Idaho transfer Tony Lashley will not be starting.
  • Riley Whimpey will be a force at linebacker and did an excellent job in the passing game.
  • True Freshman I expect to play: all three wide receivers (Cobbs, Shakir, Bowens), Andrew Van Buren, Demitri Washington, and Scale Igiehon.
  • Boise State hosted a great event. The fans were allowed to go on the Blue after the game and the players spent well over an hour signing autographs for the fans. They also had bouncy houses and other cool activities for the kids before practice started.
