The Week 0 kickoffs including two games featuring Mountain West teams are only two days away. Here is some of the internet chatter from the past day or so.
Former Wisconsin Badgers head coach Barry Alvarez advocates for a 6-team playoff
This is significant because of Alvarez’s experience with the playoff committee, and his overall influence on the higher-ups of college football. Alvarez took this take another step by saying the Group of 5 champion should feature in this 6-team playoff. Needless to say, we at the MWC Connection like Barry Alvarez and his take.
AP names Wyoming’s Andrew Wingard second-team all-America
There are a ton of preseason honors handed out during the summer, but this one may top them all for Mountain West players. Wingard is a key figure in a defense being touted as the Mountain West’s best. Wingard and his Pokes travel to Las Cruces this weekend to play the New Mexico State Aggies in Week 0.
Colorado State football coach Mike Bobo returns to practice after being released from hospital
After being hospitalized on August 11th for numbness in his feet, Bobo returned to practice today, albeit in a golf cart. There had been talk that Bobo might miss the first few games, but it appears he might return this weekend in some capacity. The Rams open the 2018 season this weekend vs. Hawaii.
Hurricane Lane concerns the Warriors, depth chart released
The Rainbow Warriors are set to play the Colorado State Rams this weekend in Ft. Collins, but were plenty distracted this week. Hurricane Lane, a category 5 storm, has already forced the cancellation of other sporting events Thursday through the rest of the weekend, and classes as well. The Warriors left today for Ft. Collins. UH also released a depth chart, showing QBs Cole McDonald and Chevan Cordeiro as the co-starters, and two true freshman starting on the OL (!!).
Deep family roots keep Lobos’ Saltes grounded
Final story comes from the Albuquerque Journal on a profile of right tackle Teton Saltes. The Lobo lineman is determined to make a difference in his community where suicide, drug overdose, alcoholism and domestic violence are serious problems.
