Start your week off with some links.

NCAA Football: Georgia State at Air Force Ray Carlin-USA TODAY Sports

Welcome to the last week before college football! Granted, it’s the start of this week and the Week 0 games will come at the end of the next week, but it’s still true. Per usual, we have you covered in the links department, scouring the internet for stories around the conference. A few teams had reports from their scrimmages this weekend. Check out the slate we have for you today.

Wolf Pack’s Fossum to honor his friend.

WR Kaleb Fossum was a teammate and close friend of the late Tyler Hillinski, who died by suicide earlier this year. He now plays for the Nevada Wolf Pack and opens up about the communication between the two during Tyler’s last days as well as the support he received while dealing with this tragedy from his family, friends, and teammates. Fossum will wear #3 this year to honor Hillinski.

Rams defense ahead after second scrimmage.

In past seasons, the offense has carried Colorado State on the field during the regular season. However, this fall camp, the coaches keep saying the defense are the ones leading the team thus far. According to Coach Mike Bobo, the first team defense didn’t give up a point and the offense has been hanging their heads a bit. If the defense is as good as advertised, the Rams could be quite good this year.

Coach Harsin recaps Broncos first scrimmage.

You can listen to Harsin or read the recap. He mentions the usual suspects here: QB Brett Rypien, RB Alexander Mattison, CB/Returner Avery Williams. He says the tight end group isn’t there yet. Also, Harsin doesn’t shy away from talking about New Year’s bowl expectations (since they are hard to avoid hearing), but says they haven’t accomplished anything yet.

Jerry Palm bowl projections.

CBS sports has released their bowl predictions for the upcoming season. We of course released the first edition of ours last Thursday, but I suppose it doesn’t hurt to look at what the experts have to say either. As far the the MWC is concerned, Palm has Boise State as the G5 rep, playing Stanford in the Fiesta Bowl. Then UNLV vs New Mexico State in the Arizona Bowl, Nevada vs Wake Forest in the Quick Lane Bowl, Colorado State vs Southern Miss in the Heart of Dallas Bowl, and Wyoming against Marshall in the Hawaii Bowl. Utah State will play Buffalo in the Potato Bowl, Fresno State will get the Vegas Bowl against Colorado, and San Diego State faces North Texas in the New Mexico Bowl. 8 bowl teams would be huge for the MWC.

Here’s what’s going on at Nevada....
