NCAA Football: Georgia State at Air Force Ray Carlin-USA TODAY Sports

It’s Tuesday so... here we go again...

Athlon previews New Mexico.

The team previews continue to churn out. They put the Lobos at 118 out of 130 teams and state they are in a crossroads after everything that went on last season. For offense, they look at the transition out of the option to focus more on passing the ball and bringing in experienced JUCO players to help with that. Defensively, they point out how they have to get back to forcing turnovers to be effective. They say if everything works out right, maybe they go as high as 9-4, but in the end predict them to finish last in the division.

UNLV giving away free food to get people to games.

This is the classic college tactic. Free food is a great way to get people to come to your event. Credit them for changing things up to try to get something going. Fans can buy an all you can eat ticket for 3 games this year (including Fresno State and the rivalry game against Nevada) for $79 and get bottomless amounts of popcorn, hot dogs, nachos, and pop. Good for them.

Learn a bit more about Air Force and the other academies.

Did you know that some Navy players want to beat Air Force more than Army? Did you know the Coast Guard has a team that plays DIII? Did you know that some future Marines player for Navy? Did you know that Texas A&M and Virginia Tech are considered senior military colleges?

Pat Hill Getting Back Involved at Fresno?

Fresno has a new athletic director in Terry Tumey, and he has made it clear that an early goal of his is to reach out to Pat Hill. Hill was an assistant coach at Fresno from 1984-1989 and the head coach from 1997-2011. In 1999 Hill’s Fresno team went on to win a WAC Championship as well as some big bowl wins over Virginia, UCLA and Georgia Tech twice. Nothing is concrete here between Tumey and Hill, but for Fresno fans of any age, this has to feel nostalgic.
