MWC Recruiting Roundup 3-5-18

Spartans handing out offers like candy

NCAA Football: Wyoming at San Jose State D. Ross Cameron-USA TODAY Sports

It was another busy week in the MWC recruiting world. San Jose State in particular handed out 16 offers last week. Also, there are two commitments in the conference so far, and although neither of them occurred in the past week, they are featured this week below.

Commitment Spotlight

LB Kani Taufa (Utah State)

(This was featured back in January but is worth mentioning again)

“The biggest thing for me was the support from my family, it being a dream school of mine. The second thing was it felt like home when I went over and I’ve never felt more love and comfort! Also, another big factor was the coaching and the environment. I looked up to former USU/NFL player Bobby Wagner. He was a role model for me. Also some of my family have started a legacy there and I want to keep it going in a way. The opportunity and the excitement of going to my dream school and the coaches offering me are huge. The fact that I can be the first 2019 player to commit is what made me wanna announce it. The coaches were excited. They were just letting me know what it takes to be an Aggie and how I need to represent them well and they were telling me how proud they are and what they are looking forward to in the future! It was an amazing day!”

DB Xavier Goldsmith (Colorado State)

“I committed to the Rams because: they have a very nice campus, I loved the coaching staff, and I have an opportunity to play early there. It just felt very different being there and seemed like the place for me. They are recruiting me as a DB and probably specifically as a nickel. The coaches really like my high football IQ, my coverage skills and ability as well as the football I have as a DB. Even though it’s an early commit, I felt like it’s the right time, a great fit and I found somewhere that liked me. This offseason my plan is to focus on getting bigger and faster.”
