They illustrate how Gonzaga would raise the level of competition for the conference, and although it may knock the Broncos down a spot or two in the conference standings, it is overall good for BSU and every one.
Not surprisingly, they are also pushing for the move to the MWC. They say the move is important for them to stay relevant in college basketball due to their current poor conference schedule.
This new arrangement for the conference tournament is the conference’s hope that it is attractive enough to the Zags that they stay. The benefits are plenty; they can get a bye to the quarter-finals, which not only avoids upsets early in the conference tourney but also prevents their RPI from being dragged down by those wins. Is it enough? Time will tell.
This is from two weeks ago. Nothing has changed but it looks at the benefits from both Gonzaga’s perspective as well as the conference’s perspective.
