This week in Mountain West Conference recruiting saw what may look like the norm for the near future. It featured a handful of offers, no commits to speak of, and one (or two) schools have a ton of visitors while they had their Junior Day. This week featured San Jose State with all of their Junior Day visitors and Boise State leading the week in offers. Though the Spartans have had quite a few weeks on the cover photo, the Broncos take it this week.
Featured Recruit: LB Michael Shawcroft
- 6’2 225lbs
- Helix HS
- MWC offers: Utah State, San Diego State, Nevada, and San Jose State
- Highlights
MWCConnection: As a player, what do you feel are your biggest strengths?
Shawcroft: I would describe myself as a smart, physical player. I feel my biggest strength is that I’m very good at reading plays before they happen and just seeing what the offense is doing. Also I can rush off the edge and pass rush well.
MWCConnection: On the flip side, what would you say are some areas of your game you are focusing on improving during this offseason?
Shawcroft: I need to improve upon being a more instinctive player. This is only my second year playing linebacker so just trusting my reads and reacting instantly will come with more practice. This year I started in the middle at Mike and then switched to Will mid-season and finished outside.
MWCConnection: Do you have plans to visit any schools this spring?
Shawcroft: I’ve been to SDSU before because, that’s the hometown school and my older brother went to San Jose State from 2009-2013 so I’ve been there before. I’d like to get out to Nevada and Utah state sometime this summer.
MWCConnection: Is there a team you are hearing from the most right now or teams you think may be close to offering?
Shawcroft: No not at the moment it’s still early in the process and I feel everyone shown the same amount of interest.
