In preparation of this matchup, let’s take a quick look at how each team got here:
*UTAH STATE*
After a heartbreaking overtime loss to New Mexico State in the Arizona Bowl, the Aggies went into this season not really knowing what either their floor or ceiling was. Yet, after starting off the year with a tough fought loss to Michigan State, the Aggies rattled off 10 straight wins before falling to Boise State on the blue turf. The season is highlighted by an electric offense led by sophomore QB Jordan Love, an offense that ranked behind only Oklahoma and Alabama (two CFP participants) in points per game.
*NORTH TEXAS*
Under Head Coach Seth Littrell, North Texas has found themselves in a spot most did not see coming. This program was dead in the water only a few years ago. From 1-11 in 2015 to 9-3 and C-USA championship contenders the past two years. This season, the Mean Green‘s three loses we’re all within a one score differential, so they’re only a few plays away from a possible undefeated season. Led by junior QB Mason Fine, this program is seeing success it doesn’t see very often. Sound familiar?
I’ll have a more in depth preview of this game coming up in the next week or so. For now, get ready for what should be an enthralling matchup between two very exciting G5 teams.
