Two Mountain West teams were in action over the weekend and they both came away with victories. Plus, a few other bits of news about the MWC from late last week. Catch up here:
Bulldogs cap off their great season with a great win.
Fresno State was impressive pretty much the entire season. They displayed it once again on Saturday, taking down a PAC-12 opponent in Arizona State and making sure the Mountain West won the Vegas Bowl for another year. Coach Tedford notched his 26th win with the Bulldogs over the past two seasons.
Aggies destroy North Texas.
It didn’t matter that they lost their head coach or only had four coaches on the sidelines during the game. They won and it wasn’t that close. Apparently the extra curricular activities before the game didn’t matter either. The Aggies dominated from start to finish, setting a New Mexico bowl record for quickest score. Credit the players, remaining coaches and GAs who remained focused when they could’ve easily mailed it in.
Falcons get a new Athletic Director.
Nathan Pine, who has been serving as the AD at Holy Cross for five years, is set to become the new AD at the Air Force Academy. He has previously served in the athletic department at Army. The news isn’t yet official, but it sounds like at this time it is just waiting on the school to confirm it.
How Thompson was a great fit for the Aggies.
Running back Darwin Thompson turned in a great season for Utah State this year. He displays high athleticism which makes him more than simply a speed back. He was a junior college transfer on a mission, set to prove he could compete and star at the top level of college football. Looks like it’s been mission accomplished.
Rams trying to find help through recruiting.
The problem is, where to begin, as Colorado State need A LOT of help if they are to right the ship next season. Offensive line seems to be getting top priority. They are looking at the JUCO ranks with guys who can play immediately, but they only have 8 players verbally committed at this time. That seems to be by design, as they are leaving room to sign more players in January.
