As we wait for bowl games to get going, we have some articles to keep you all updated on. We have some news around MW basketball as we inch closer to conference play as well as some stuff to look for in upcoming Bowl Games.
Weir admits Lobos might be fatigued after rough week on the hardwood
After New Mexico lost their last two games by a combined 60 points, head coach Paul Weir thinks his team might be getting fatigued because of high intensity practices. Weir wants to instill a good work ethic in his team but it may be costing them in games. Shooting woes are evidence the team may be needing some rest as the Lobos went from shooting 47.9% from downtown in November to just 29.2% from three so far in December. Whether the team needs rest or not the Lobos, picked to finish third in the conference, need to figure it out.
Week 6 AP top 25 poll
The week 6 college basketball AP poll is out. No surprise as Nevada is the only MW team ranked. Even after beating 2 PAC 12 teams in LA, including a win over 20th ranked Arizona State, Nevada dropped one spot from last week’s poll.
Nevada drops one spot in AP poll, but it might be a good thing in the long-run
Nevada may be 10-0 but Tennessee moved past the Wolf Pack to #4 in the AP poll after knocking off top ranked Gonzaga. While Nevada dropped to #7, their second one spot drop in as many weeks, Gonzaga losing bodes well for Nevada’s chances to eventually claim the top spot. Also, take a look at which teams are trending up and which teams are falling down in Chris Murray’s most recent ballot.
Utah State draft prospects to watch in New Mexico Bowl
Utah State’s matchup with North Texas is sure to be a fun one as both teams average over 35 points a game. Chris Trapasso of CBS sports has identified two Utah State draft prospects to watch in the game. Second-team all-Mountain West RB Darwin Thompson has had a tremendous season as well as TE Dax Raymond. Look for both of these players to improve their draft stock in the New Mexico bowl.
