It’s Monday and we’re back at it! The Athletic provided some great coverage on the Mountain West Conference last week. We have those articles for you today, as well as some other coverage.
Wells simple change paying dividends for Aggies.
This season has been different for Utah State. They are averaging about 35 points per game and leading the nation in takeaways. However, the real difference in Wells’ mind has been something different. The team is being player-led, instead of energy and motivation having to be created by the coaching staff. Wells changed the way team captains were voted on, moving it up to spring and spreading it out over every position. It looks to have made all the difference.
How Norvell is turning Nevada around.
Norvell moved around a lot as an offensive coordinator, and often not by choice. In some ways he was a surprising hire for the head coaching job, but he’s getting the last laugh now. They are bowl eligible and stuck to what they were doing after a trying first season. It’s paying off for them now and who knows what’s in store going forward.
Defense will take fall for Ram’s season.
This was written before their last second loss to Utah State but it holds true regardless. Things can’t stand pat going into next season and since it can’t be Bobo money wise, the next viable option is the defense. It wouldn’t be surprising if they fired their DC and a defensive position coach or two by the end of it. OL hasn’t been great either. Keep an eye on what changes are made.
Broncos grades for their Friday win.
The offense gets a B+ for putting up over 40 points and 449 yards of offense. The defense is given an A- for their bend don’t break in the first half, making adjustments in the second half and forcing a few turnovers. Special teams didn’t fare as well, getting a FG blocked and allowing a punt return TD. Overall though, Boise State turned in a great performance.
